The URUNANI Africa Network Participates in a Training on Popular and Decolonial Education in Brussels
From August 30 to September 4, 2025, the URUNANI Africa Network took part in the training program “Popular and Decolonial Education” organized in Brussels by ITECO in partnership with the CRID.

Over six days, this international learning experience brought together actors committed to popular education, international solidarity, and social transformation from both the Global North and South. Participating organizations included Sterna Africa, TERRAFRIK Guinée, Réseau Femme Lève-Toi, Réseau Zoodo Action et Solidarité, Courts-Circuits 47, Maison des Citoyens du Monde de Nantes, KuriOz, Réseau d’Entraide Vérité et Justice, and ATTAC-Togo.
Throughout the program, participants engaged in reflective workshops, decolonial visits, and participatory learning methods such as the token game and the Theatre of the Oppressed. Discussions were enriched by historical perspectives and critical reflections inspired by the work of Paulo Freire and bell hooks, both internationally recognized for their contributions to emancipatory and critical education.

The training also provided an opportunity to meet inspiring speakers and activists who shared their experiences and analyses on resilience, globalization, social justice, and civic engagement. Among them were Cecile Rugira, Arnaud Zacharie, and Ben Kamuntu.
Through this participation, the URUNANI Africa Network continues to strengthen its commitment to more inclusive, critical, and locally grounded approaches to popular education. This experience helped reinforce the capacities of network members, strengthen ties with other committed organizations, and open new opportunities for cooperation and international solidarity.
The URUNANI Africa Network warmly thanks ITECO and the CRID for this valuable opportunity for learning, exchange, and collective growth.
